41+ practice questions in Praczo

What you need to know

The concept, explained

  • 1

The SAT highly values conciseness. If a word or phrase repeats information already stated in the sentence, it must be removed.

  • 2

Examples of redundancy: "annual... every year", "past... history", "completely... finish", "sudden... surprise".

  • 3

When faced with multiple grammatically correct choices, the SHORTEST option is almost always correct, as long as it preserves the original meaning and doesn't break grammar rules.

Common mistakes
  • Choosing a longer phrase because it sounds more formal or impressive ("academic language" trap).
  • Failing to notice that a definition is already implied by another word in the sentence.
